Joseph Blacfellow
Music Artist
Joseph Blacfellow is not your average emcee. His funked-out guitar chords and prolific lyrics create a distinctive blend of acoustic Hip Hop that sets him apart in a lane of his own. Hailing from Richmond, VA, he grew up surrounded by a family of musicians. Today, he’s honed an eclectic sound and persona that has opened the doors to a new genre and sonic fusion of Hip Hop, Soul, Blues, Funk, and Jazz.
His musical influences include Black Thought, The Stokes, and Marvin Gaye. And his cutting edge sound has been compared to the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ritchie Havens, and Cody Chestnut.
As an artist, songwriter, and performer Joseph has worked with an eclectic mix of musicians — touring with Jazz Poets Society, earning writing credits with Tricky, and collaborating with Wayne Brady, Dave Robbins, Michael Hampton, Jean Baptiste, and many more in the studio and on stage.
Joseph brings a conscious spirit and substance to every audience, from street corners, intimate cafes, and social clubs, to music venues, colleges, and festivals. As he continues to push boundaries, the unique path he’s forging leaves a lasting impact on the music scene and all who hear his luminous flow.
